  1. [AH Fiction] 75 Years of Driveball (1950-2025)

    It’s Spanish for cowboy.
  2. [AH Fiction] 75 Years of Driveball (1950-2025)

I like A better. There’s no division that covers all four time zones.
  3. [AH Fiction] 75 Years of Driveball (1950-2025)

I love it. Having two teams out west will be much better than one, and it will open the door for further expansion out west. Also, will the LA team need a new name or just do what LA teams do and keep names that made more sense in their original cities?
  4. [AH Fiction] 75 Years of Driveball (1950-2025)

Don’t blame me; I voted for McGovern, I mean, Baltimore. Imagine them being the original Colts.
  5. [AH Fiction] 75 Years of Driveball (1950-2025)

Why do I feel like that will be the answer to a million-dollar question fifty years later?
  6. [AH Fiction] 75 Years of Driveball (1950-2025)

The 60s and 70s are ripe for a rival league, and if the league doesn’t have enough action out west, I could see the rival league dominating out west. I could see Des Moines being the Heartland’s answer to the Packers, and bear in mind that, at this point, the Patriots are still a decade away...
  7. [AH Fiction] 75 Years of Driveball (1950-2025)

I wonder if it would make more sense in the future for the Des Moines team to switch to calling themselves the Iowa Haymakers. Unless Iowa City wants a team down the road.
  8. [AH Fiction] 75 Years of Driveball (1950-2025)

At that point, the trend would have been American and National, and I imagine DANA will follow suit.
  9. [AH Fiction] 75 Years of Driveball (1950-2025)

A lot of variation in scoring, I notice. Brooklyn wins with 55 points and Chicago loses with 139. I suppose it’s no different from an NFL team winning 13-10 one week and losing 48-41 the following week, but you really notice the variance when there’s that many points being scored.
  10. [AH Fiction] 75 Years of Driveball (1950-2025)

How soon does this go international?
  11. [AH Fiction] 75 Years of Driveball (1950-2025)

What time of year are you thinking?
  12. [AH Fiction] 75 Years of Driveball (1950-2025)

Are we looking at two divisions or one large league? How long is the schedule? I presume it’s like football and played weekly. I assume if it’s two divisions, only the division winners make the playoffs.
  13. [AH Fiction] 75 Years of Driveball (1950-2025)

A lot of football players playing driveball. Looks like the NFL is in trouble here.
  14. What if it was known the Lusitania carried ammunition?

If my neighbor says he’s going to kick my ass if I go into my front yard, it doesn’t make him any less of an asshole for doing it. All Germany did was announce their intentions; it didn’t justify their actions.
  15. What if it was known the Lusitania carried ammunition?

Bombing a military target is still considered an offense if you’re ostensibly a neutral country. At that point, there were people chomping at the bit for a piece of that war, and the fact that they had war weapons on board wouldn’t mean shit. They weren’t directly involved in the war and weren’t...
  16. Explain the AH Quote

John DeLorean after the creation of his second try at a functioning automobile, this one a sleek sports car that would later go on to inspire the DeLorean F1 Dragon, driven by the winners of 10 Indy 500s. “The royal family is as sacred to Americans as cricket and steak and kidney pie! To even...
  17. Who is the ideal Candidate to defeat Reagan in 1980?

Himself. Get him into the White House in 1976 and have him end up with Iran and stagflation. Jesus of Nazareth couldn’t get re-elected after all that.
  18. The Americans Stay Strong in St. Louis: The History of the St. Louis Americans of the NHL

Dallas surprises me since it took to the 90s to get them a team, but bear in mind it took the WHA to get Winnipeg a team. I don’t know how forceful Winnipeg is on the list of cities to get teams, given that any pop culture that even addresses Winnipeg tends to use it as a punchline (The Simpsons...
  19. The Americans Stay Strong in St. Louis: The History of the St. Louis Americans of the NHL

Assuming they still play at the highest level, I noticed Alberta is absent from the list of teams. “Calgary Comets” has a nice ring to it.
  20. WI Gerald Ford does not pardon Richard Nixon

Ford wins 1976. A Democrat wins 1980 because the incumbent party in 1980 was, in all likelihood, completely fucked. By 1984, Reagan would be 73, and no amount of polish will convince GOP brass - who, in all likelihood, watched him get his ass handed to him in 1980 - that he’s up for it.
